The Deal with Disability

As anyone who reads Benefit Scrounging Scum on a regular basis already knows...I have a bit of a 'thing' about how appearance influences perceptions of disability. I recently discovered a new blog, The Deal with Disability It's author, Eva, is an extremely intelligent, perceptive and articulate young woman who just happens to also be severely disabled.

I'm still a tad puddled so I'll just say I can't recommend
The Deal with Disability enough!

Hi! Bendy

Thanks for the link.

Eva's blog is totally captivating. She has certainly succeeded in opening my eyes to the crap she has to endure because of the way people tend to react to disability.

It's a highly insightful blog and has huge learning potential. Eva has the ability and the wit, to change society's perception of disability. She's inspirational.

Bendy, hope things look up for you soon. I've been following quietly, in awe.

Good link BG - gone in my reader to do that go back to the beginning thing and read in the right order. I completely agree with steph's comments on Eva's blog & will leave her thoughts on it to say that which I would have said if I could have found the words.

Hope 'the plan' is going to exactly that. I wrote a comment albeit very late after the others a couple of posts back in support. Its weird how different meds affect people - oramorph I can tolerate for breakthrough pain but don't take all day every day. It doesn't make me feel at all spaced or whatever the current terminology is. Oxcycontin I cannot tolerate physically at all.

I just wish the gp had suggested a supervised and gradual withdrawal in the first instance, which would have saved you a lot of unnecessary trauma. Wishing I could take your pain away.

I used to be very anti pain meds - in middle age now I accept that for me at least a certain level does help me cope with EDS (plus other associated conditions pain). I also know that even with meds & multi disciplinary pain management techniques the pain doesn't disappear.

BG am thinking of you. Take care of yourself.
