I can't think of anything sadder than someone dying - not because they HAD to - but because they WANTED to. And the sadness arises out of the understanding that somehow, their lives got to be SO bad - that they were willing to end it rather than go on. That is so, so sad. That their lives got to be that bad - that there wasn't anyone near and dear enough to help enough to make it better enough so that they might want to live.
If assissted suicide were legal, with proper safeguards to ensure that no-one would ever be killed against their will, would you still oppose it?
