I empathise.
I'm guilty of underplaying my disability and - I don't know what word to use - suffered? Because I've tried to be 'normal'. A kindly neighbour asked today - "Would you like to go to the seaside? - if you don't like the beach, we could pick you up from the pub later?". I'm sure she meant well.
I'm pleased you have such dedicated mates.
