Finally a well reasoned and thought through article on Incapacity benefit which does not label all claimants as scum. Much more like this is needed before we can find any resolution to the problems befalling the benefits system.
But some of the comments display little understanding of genuine incapacity...this is one of the major problems...finding a scapegoat for the lack of government funding in many other areas...
I'm as strongly patriotic as the next person but I fail to see why we've been posing as a world power in Iraq and still are in Afghanistan, when we can't properly equip our servicemen/servicewomen, can't properly look after their families, Can't look after them when they're disabled and can't even meet our home responsibilities...
I'm not anti-armed services...far from it...the Falklands issue for example had to be sorted...and quite rightly was...but Iraq...Afghanistan? What are these to do with us? Why at huge expense are we sending not only our regulars, but the Terriers too, overseas?
Stop posing...Bring the troops home and spend the money saved on decent clean moral issues instead...
But of course, this is beyond the average, corrupt politician ... graduated from Public School and University but bereft of any real education...
Not only did George screw us, over here in the States, he dragged the rest of the world into it, as well. I AM sorry. And if he can't or won't apologize, then I will. I'm sorry for the measure that involvement with us has come home to roost with you Brits. I really am.

No surprise here... senior civil servants and ministers have been looking to or visiting the states and returning with stars in their eyes, impressed by how they are keeping the rolls down. Of course, most don't (or won't) understand that the US equiv of incapacity and DLA has much stricter entitlements that would naturaly disqualify many current recipients in the UK. -Faceless

Rant over (sorry!)
